COMPARATIVE STUDY OF BIOCOMPONENTS OF AERIAL AND UNDERGROUND PARTS OF FERULA FOETIDA BY GAS
CHROMATOGRAPHY-MASS SPECTROMETRY METHOD
Resume. Kazakhstan’s pharmaceutical industry is producing low amount of domestic medicinal products due to insufficient
study of local medicinal plants as a drug source and high demand of these plants in foreign market. In this case, fundamental
studies of endemic and medicinal plants are the highest of the priority for science of domestic pharmacy. Ferula foetida is a
plant that combines various active substances with valuable biological activity. The plant has massive taproot or carrotshaped roots, 12-15 cm in diameter in the crown. It has several pharmacological activities like anti-flatulent, antibacterial,
antiviral, antifungal, anti-ulcerogenic, antidiabetic and anti-hepatotoxic properties. This research work indicated the results
of quantitative analysis of aerial and underground parts of Ferula foetida that include the compositional substituents of the
main groups of bioactive substances. The phytoconstituents analysis was conducted according to the methodology of the
State Pharmacopoeia of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Test methods of medicinal plant raw materials, Vol. 2). 11 macro- and
micro-elements in the ash and plant were identified by atomic absorption spectrometry. Moreover, the chromatographic
investigation of both parts that was done by gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection (GC-MS) is presented in
the given research work. According to GC-MS results, there were found 47 compounds in the underground part and 66
substituents in the aerial part of F. foetida. Based on the conducted analyses, it can be concluded that the phyto-composition
of the plant is a rich source of biologically active complexes with promising and beneficial effects in the consistency of future
medicinal product. This study of the F. foetida plant continues to do in-depth research on the chemical composition and
biologically active substances of both parts.
