ORGANIZATION OF NURSING CARE IN THE OPERATING UNIT: CURRENT STATUS AND PROSPECTS
(LITERATURE REVIEW)
Abstract: Healthcare organizations aim to achieve the best results in providing high-quality medical services, including surgical
care. According to the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery, approximately 313 million surgical procedures are performed
worldwide annually, including both major and minor interventions, as well as inpatient and outpatient surgeries. In this regard,
the importance of organizing nursing care in the operating room has been increasing over time, as the work of nurses
significantly impacts the efficiency and safety of modern surgical interventions. . .
Research…оbjective
To analyze the publications, the current state of organizing nursing care in the operating room, and to identify prospective
directions for improving the quality of care and the effectiveness of nurses’ work.
Materials..and..methods
For the research, a search was conducted for domestic and international literature in PubMed and Google Scholar databases
from 2014 to 2024. Based on the keywords, 53 publications were identified, of which 7 articles were excluded according to the
exclusion criteria. The selected articles were divided into three groups: analytical studies (n=15), systematic reviews and metaanalyses (n=24), and methodological guidelines (n=4). The articles were analyzed regarding various aspects of organizing the
work of operating room nurses and the implementation of new technologies in surgical practice.
Results
The analysis of the literature showed that operating room nurses play an essential role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of
surgical interventions. Contemporary challenges, such as the introduction of new technologies and the increasing demands for
qualifications, require constant updating of knowledge and skills. The future development of operating rooms is associated
with the integration of artificial intelligence and robotic systems, which, on the one hand, reduce the workload of nurses, but
on the other hand, impose new requirements for their professional training. To optimize the work of the operating room, it is
necessary to actively implement innovations, train medical staff, and take into account the psychological aspect of patient
interaction. One of the key conclusions is the lack of research focused on preparing nurses to work with robotic surgical
systems. The literature primarily emphasizes the training of surgeons, while the preparation of operating room nurses remains
insufficiently addressed. This highlights the need for the development of scientifically grounded programs to prepare operating
room nurses for working in environments with new technologies. 7 7
Conclusions
Operating room nurses continue to be key figures in the surgical team. Technological innovations and automation systems
require them to continuously update and improve their professional skills to meet modern requirements and ensure a high
level of patient safety and care quality.
Keywords – operating room nurse, modern technologies, operating room, optimization of nurses’ work, nursing education and
