REVIEW OF PHYTOCHEMICAL COMPOSITIONS AND PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF COUSINA CASS. SPECIES
Introduction: The genus Cousinia, comprising over 50 species, is widespread in Kazakhstan. However, the phytochemical
composition and biological properties of many species remain underexplored. This study aims to summarize existing data on
their pharmacological potential.
Methods: Systematic, descriptive, and retrospective methods were employed for the analysis.
Results: Studies have revealed that Cousinia species contain phytochemicals such as flavonoids, terpenoids, and alkaloids.
These compounds exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Endemic species of Kazakhstan,
including Cousinia mindshelkensis listed in the Red Book, were specifically analyzed.
Discussion: Further research on Cousinia holds significant potential for the development of new pharmaceuticals due to their
rich phytochemical diversity.
Keywords: Cousinia, phytochemical composition, biological activity.
