HETEROGENEITY OF PATHOGENESIS AND SPECTRUM OF COMPLICATIONS IN CHRONIC PANCREATITIS
Background: Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a progressive inflammatory disease that leads to irreversible pancreatic damage. It
is associated with numerous complications, such as pancreatogenic diabetes, pancreatic cancer, and metabolic bone disorders,
significantly impacting patients’ quality of life.
Objectives: This study aims to analyze the pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic pancreatitis complications, emphasizing
their clinical implications.
Methods: A systematic review was conducted using databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and EBSCO. Publications from
January 2020 to December 2024 were prioritized. The inclusion criteria focused on studies addressing CP complications and
their underlying mechanisms.
Results: The review identified three major groups of CP complications: (1) endocrine disorders, including pancreatogenic
diabetes; (2) oncological risks, particularly pancreatic cancer; and (3) metabolic bone disorders. The role of inflammatory
markers and genetic mutations in these complications was analyzed.
Conclusion: CP complications result from complex interactions between inflammation, fibrosis, and genetic predispositions.
Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for early diagnosis and intervention.
Keywords: chronic pancreatitis, pancreatogenic diabetes, pancreatic cancer, metabolic bone disorders, pancreatic
complications.
