REVIEW OF CLASSICAL AND NEW DIAGNOSTIC METHODS
REFLUX-ASSOCIATED ENT PATHOLOGY: PROTON PUMP INHIBITOR TEST,
OROPHARYNGEAL PH-MONITORING

Purpose. To determine the advantages and effectiveness of modern methods for diagnosing extraesophageal
manifestations of GERD in relation to the classical ones.
Methodology. This paper presents a literature review from Pubmed, Web of Science, Willey Online Library
and Google Scholar sources over the past 10 years on the diagnosis of extraesophageal manifestations of
GERD. We selected 73 articles on the epidemiology and diagnosis of GERD, of which 13 were on a new
oropharyngeal pH probe (Restech).
Based on the literature sources studied by us, we analyzed the effectiveness and accuracy of a new method
for diagnosing extraesophageal manifestations of GERD by the pharyngeal probe test (Restech) in comparison
with more classical research methods – a symptom questionnaire, a scale of clinical manifestations, a test with
proton pump inhibitors and 24-hour pH probe testing of the esophagus.
Key words: Laryngopharyngeal reflux, gastroesophageal reflux, GERD, pH probe, pH monitoring, Dx-pH probe,
oropharyngeal Ph monitoring, Restech device, proton pump inhibitor test.
