Relevance. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), including coronary artery disease (CAD), myocardial infarction (MI), cerebrovascular diseases (stroke), and other related conditions, remain one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. In cases where conventional pharmacological treatment of CVDs is insufficiently effective, increasing attention is being paid to the use of herbal medicinal products as an alternative therapeutic approach, particularly for patients who do not
meet the criteria for standard pharmacological interventions.
Objective. To conduct a comparative marketing analysis of the range of herbal medicines used for cardiovascular diseases in the pharmaceutical markets of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, and to study the opinions of pharmaceutical specialists and consumers regarding their use.
Materials and Methods. The analysis of the assortment of herbal medicinal products was carried out using data obtained from the State Registers of Medicines of the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Kazakhstan. A sociological survey was conducted to assess specialists’ opinions on the use of herbal medicinal products in the management of cardiovascular diseases.
Results. According to the survey conducted among pharmacy professionals in the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, and the Republic of Kazakhstan, the most commonly used medications for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases were antihypertensive drugs (beta-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, diuretics, and calcium channel blockers), antiplatelet agents (acetylsalicylic acid), and statins. Among over-thecounter products, cardiac drops, herbal teas, tinctures of hawthorn, valerian, and motherwort, as well as sedative drops, were particularly popular. Survey data obtained in Pyatigorsk (Russian Federation) demonstrated that the main consumers of cardiovascular medications were women over 45 years of age, predominantly aged 60-81 years, with low income levels. Among the
respondents, 53.3% were employed, including working retirees, while 33.3% were retired and unemployed. In the structure of registered herbal medicinal products used for cardiovascular diseases, imported products predominated in the Republic of Belarus (54.90%), indicating significant potential for expanding the assortment through the development of domestic products.
Conclusions. The results of the study indicate the need for further development of domestic production of modern herbal medicines, expansion of their range and increasing the role of pharmaceutical consulting in the selection of herbal remedies for the prevention and complex treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
