Introduction. Bronchial asthma (BA) is one of the most common chronic diseases, the
treatment of which requires strict adherence to the principles of rational pharmacotherapy and
current clinical guidelines. In the context of an expanding range of medicinal products and regularly updated stepwise treatment strategies, the level of pharmacotherapeutic training of future physicians becomes particularly important, as it directly affects the safety and effectiveness of drug therapy.

Aim of the study. To assess the level of knowledge of 6th-year medical students in the diagnosis
and pharmacotherapy of bronchial asthma from the perspective of rational use of medicines.

Materials and methods. Within the framework of the ASSA-V research project, an anonymous
survey of 81 graduating students majoring in General Medicine was conducted in September 2025
using an original 21-item questionnaire developed on the basis of current clinical guidelines for the
management of bronchial asthma. Particular attention was paid to pharmacotherapy issues, including the choice of drug classes, combined inhaled medications, and stepwise treatment regimens. The level of knowledge was assessed using the average completeness score (ACS). Statistical analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel 2021 and IBM SPSS Statistics 27.

Results. The overall average completeness score for the questionnaire was 58.0%. Statistically
significant differences were identified between knowledge in the “Etiopathogenesis” section (ACS =74.2%) and the “Pharmacotherapy” section (ACS = 45.8%; p < 0.001). The greatest difficulties were observed in selecting pharmacological strategies at the initial steps of asthma therapy, including the use of inhaled corticosteroids, β2-agonists, and combination products, indicating an insufficient level of pharmacotherapeutic reasoning. Conclusion. The findings indicate the need to strengthen the training of future physicians in
clinical pharmacology and the rational use of medicines in the management of bronchial asthma. The results highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary approach involving clinical pharmacologists and pharmaceutical specialists in the educational process, as well as the relevance of improving pharmaceutical support for asthma pharmacotherapy.
